The word means that the Goods and Services Tax (GST) would apply to both goods and services and will be administered in a dual system, with the Central and State governments operating separately. The Union's Financial Minister will lead the GST Council, which will also include members from state finance departments.

Detailed GST Registration Process

The GST Portal is where applicants may finish the GST registration procedure. The site creates the GST ARN immediately upon the submission of the application. Using the GST ARN, the applicant can verify the status of his or her application and, if required, submit queries.

Here is the registration procedure-1

  • STEP 1: Navigate to the GST site and click on the new registration link under the services tab.
  • STEP 2: Complete OTP Validation to create a TRN.
  • STEP 3: Verification of the OTP and generation of the TRN.
  • STEP 4: TRN is produced
  • STEP 5: Log in using the TRN
  • STEP 6: Provide your company's details.

Enter the company's trade name in the area labelled Trade Name.
Select the company's bylaws from the drop-down menu.
Select the District and Sector/ Circle/ Ward/ Charge/ Unit from the drop-down menu.
Select the appropriate Commissionerate Code, Division Code, and Range Code from the respective drop-down menus.
 Select the Composition Scheme if necessary.
Enter the date the firm was founded.
Choose the date of the registration requirement. This is the day on which the company's total income surpassed the GST registration threshold. Taxpayers are required to submit a new GST registration application within 30 days of the date on which they are required to register.

  • STEP 7: Provide the personal information of each promoter.
  • STEP 8: Complete the Authorized Signatory Information form.
  • STEP 9: Add an additional business location
  • STEP 10: Add a third business location (if any)
  • STEP 11: Describe the items and services
  • STEP 12: Verify the application using DSC/EVC.
  • STEP 13: A unique identification (ARN) is produced.

Threshold Limit for Mandatory GST Registration in India

A business must register for the Goods and Services Tax if its annual turnover is greater than Rs 20 lakhs (for services) or Rs 40 lakhs (for goods). The limit is Rs 10 lakhs for North Eastern and hilly areas classified as special category states.

 GST registration is state-specific and dependent on a PAN number. Suppliers are required to register in every state and union territory in which they conduct business.

 Upon GST registration, the supplier is granted a 15-digit GST identification number known as a "GSTIN," and a certificate of registration including this GSTIN is made accessible on the GSTN common site. The first two digits of the GSTIN represent the state code, the following ten digits represent the PAN of the legal entity, the next two digits represent the entity code, and the last digit is the check sum number. One registration is utilised for all taxes, including CGST, SGST/UTGST, IGST, and cesses, as GST registration is not tax-specific.
